Garneau Manufacturing

Steel Fabrication Company

Garneau Manufacturing was established in 1979 as a small steel manufacturer supplying the Alberta oil and gas industry. In the 38 years since then, it has grown into a midsize supplier of industrial structural steel, fabricating and assembling up to 100 tons/week of high-quality steel for use in Oil and Gas, Forestry, and Petrochemical sectors.

It’s always great to be involved with new technologies, especially when this could be a potentially large fix to an environmental problem. We had the assets required to meet the expectations and needs of a client building an innovative technology like Enerkem.

We were involved with a lot of the design right off the beginning. While Enerkem completed the main structural design of the ethanol modules. We were able to provide valuable constructability inputs for Enerkem in order to optimize some connection elements for the fabrication of modules.

We have a pretty dynamic team, everybody contributes something complementary, which makes us pretty efficient. We always try to stay ahead of new technologies for complex structural steel and mechanical assemblies such as Enerkem’s modules.

L.A. Brayer Industries Ltd.

Structural Steel and Plate Fabrication Company

L.A. Brayer Industries Ltd. is a Canadian company that has been in the business for over 50 years. The company specializes in structural steel fabrication and erection as well as HVAC fabrication and installation.

We worked on our first project with Enerkem in May 2016. We established strong communication channels and a good working relationship that allowed us to deliver what Enerkem wanted, on time and with the quality that would meet all their expectations, as we always strive to deliver the best product possible.

We were pleased to be involved with Enerkem by building modules for their Edmonton facility. We had a great collaboration with the entire Enerkem team, the project went well and we could deliver ahead of the schedule.

One of the reasons we enjoy working with Enerkem is their transparency. They are effective at communicating their requirements, and then give enough freedom to effectively produce our product expecting only a quality product at the end – which is what we deliver.

I can see Enerkem doing what they did in Edmonton across Canada. I know that keeping the manufacturing and fabrication in Canada is important for Enerkem, and that is clearly important for L.A. Dimartech

Specialized steel manufacturer

Dimartech is a manufacturing company specializing in industrial steel equipment. The Canadian company has extensive expertise in the mechanical design and manufacture of pressure equipment, in the processing and transformation of chemical processes and in the innovative sector that is the environment.

Comments from John Di Marzio, President of Dimartech:

The biggest achievement to date, our most complex project, we have accomplished with Enerkem. We designed and manufactured a three-phase reactor for Enerkem for their plant in Edmonton, Alberta. This complex equipment weighing 130 tons was entirely designed and manufactured at our Montreal plant.

In collaboration with the Enerkem team, we embarked on a complex project that today makes us proud, as each of us brought our expertise and know-how to deliver all that was required. Like Enerkem, we are a daring company that likes to do new things, innovate.

Our collaboration with Enerkem allows us to surpass ourselves and move forward as a company. This is extremely stimulating for us as we help them move from idea to reality. H.C. Vidal

Manufacturer of pressure vessels

Founded in 1936, HC Vidal is a manufacturer specializing in the fabricating boilers, heat exchangers and pressure vessels for various industries including petrochemical, pulp and paper, and chemical.

Comments by Jean-Marc Vidal, President of H.C. Vidal (translated from French):

From the beginning, our collaboration was marked by great challenges, which led us to find solutions to technicalities related to Enerkem’s technology. The equipment at the heart of Enerkem’s process pushed our innovative boundaries and stimulated our team to excel and reinvent themselves in order to propose high-performance solutions that meet expectations.

Within the scope of our projects with Enerkem, we are particularly proud of the design and manufacture of a vertical column for the Edmonton plant. With a length of 120 feet, this column obviously could not be manufactured vertically in our workshop. We innovated by manufacturing and installing the column and its internal mechanics horizontally, whereas we did not have any procedure to install in this way.

We have been working with Enerkem for many years, our team is well established, the collaboration process is well established and is almost routine. Our collaboration with Enerkem leads us to excel and renew ourselves constantly.
