Enerkem has been awarded the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label, a proof of high standards in profitability and sustainability
Montréal, September 10, 2020 –Enerkem Inc., a global leader in biofuels production from solid waste, was attributed the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label. It is thereby joining the #1000solutions challenge, an initiative by the Solar Impulse Foundation to select solutions that meet high standards in profitability and sustainability and present them to decision-makers to fast-track their implementation.
To receive the “Solar Impulse Efficient Solution” Label, Enerkem was thoroughly assessed by a pool of independent experts according to 5 criteria covering the three main topics of Feasibility, Environmental and Profitability. All labelled solutions are part of the #1000solutions portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in business and government by Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-track the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious designation from the Solar Impulse Foundation, thereby recognizing Enerkem’s leadership as a provider of disruptive clean technology to enable the production of renewable chemicals and biofuels using biogenic and recycled carbon feedstock. Offering an innovative, sustainable solution for waste management, energy diversification and the implementation of a circular economy is part of our DNA and we proudly share these core values with the Solar Impulse Foundation,” commented Enerkem’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Dominique Boies.
Enerkem produces advanced biofuels and renewable chemicals from biomass and residual material. Its disruptive proprietary technology converts non-recyclable, non-compostable solid waste into methanol, ethanol and other widely used chemicals. Headquartered in Montréal, Québec, Canada, Enerkem operates a commercial-scale facility in Alberta as well as an innovation centre in Québec. Enerkem’s facilities are built as prefabricated systems based on modular manufacturing infrastructure that can be deployed globally. Enerkem’s technology is a prime example of how a true circular economy can be achieved by diversifying the energy mix and by making everyday products greener while offering a smart, sustainable alternative to landfilling and incineration.
